How does the custom compression work?
Our custom compression tool lets you specify the exact file size you need (in KB or MB) and
dimensions in pixels. The tool will automatically adjust the compression quality to meet
your target size while maintaining the dimensions you specify. It works by intelligently
adjusting the compression level through multiple iterations to get as close as possible to
your target size.
Will my original dimensions be preserved?
By default, the tool will use your original dimensions unless you specify different width
and height values. If you enter custom dimensions, the tool will resize your image/video to
those exact dimensions before applying compression. For best results, maintain the original
aspect ratio to avoid distortion.
What's the minimum file size I can target?
The minimum target size is 10KB. However, the actual achievable size depends on your
original file's content and dimensions. For very small target sizes, the tool may not be
able to reach exactly your target while maintaining acceptable quality, but it will get as
close as possible.
Does this work for both images and videos?
Yes! The custom compression works for both images and videos. For videos, you can specify
target size and dimensions, and the tool will adjust bitrate and other parameters to meet
your requirements. Note that video compression may take longer depending on the length and
original quality.
How accurate is the target size matching?
The tool typically gets within 5% of your target size. For example, if you specify 200KB,
the result will usually be between 190-210KB. The accuracy depends on the original file and
the compression algorithm's ability to reduce size without significant quality loss.
What formats support custom compression?
For images: JPEG, PNG, and WEBP formats support custom size targeting. For videos: MP4,
WEBM, and MOV formats are supported. GIFs can be compressed but with less precise size
control due to their unique compression characteristics.
Is there a file size limit for compression?
There's no hard limit, but very large files (over 100MB) may take longer to process and
could cause performance issues on older devices. For best results with large files, we
recommend using a desktop computer with sufficient memory.
